Peru - Violence broke out in Peru when riot police fired tear gas on angry residents.

They're protesting against a copper mine project.

Locals say the Southern Copper mine will destroy their environment.

But according to the government, the region will benefit economically from the project.

Peru is the world’s second largest producer of copper.

Its mining industry makes up 60% of its exports.
