Cape Town - The Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu has affirmed Cabinet's support for the office of the Public Protector.
This, despite the legal battle ensuing between President Cyril Ramaphosa and incumbent Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
Ramaphosa has asked the court to review Mkhwebane's latest report in which she found him guilty of having deliberately misled Parliament.
Mthembu had briefed the media earlier today on the outcomes of this week's cabinet meeting.
"We respect all structures that are created by our constitution and we will support those structures in fulfilling their constitutional obligation," Mthembu said.
Earlier this week, the Constitutional Court upheld a High Court ruling that the Public Protector should personally foot a portion of the Reserve Bank's legal fees after the bank had successfully challenged one of her reports.
